Pelican Studios is an integrated design and fabrication practice providing technical design development, prototyping, and manufacturing services across product, architectural, and sculptural applications
Design & Technical Development
We develop design concepts through rigorous technical modelling and detailing, resolving form, material, and assembly logic together. Design decisions are informed by fabrication constraints, performance requirements, and production considerations from the outset, ensuring designs are both expressive and buildable.
Capabilities include concept development, technical design resolution, design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA). We coordinate with builders, engineers, artists, consultants and stakeholders.
Prototyping & Testing
Prototyping is central to our workflow and used as a design tool throughout project development. We produce physical and digital prototypes to test materials, geometry, detailing, installation and fabrication methods, allowing challenges to be identified and resolved early and reducing risk prior to production.
Our prototyping capability supports rapid iteration, functional testing, and validation at multiple scales.
We fabricate projects in-house and in collaboration with specialist partners, using a combination of digital and traditional processes including precision machining, plastics manipulation, welding and metal forming.
Our 1000sqm factory, equip with a 4-tonne gantry crane, allows us to facilitate a wide range of projects including large scale public art and sculptures, one-off prototypes, bespoke architectural elements, and small to medium batch manufacturing.
We maintain design intent through fabrication, ensuring consistency, quality, and precision from prototype through to production and delivery.
Fabrication & Manufacturing
Applied Research & Custom Systems
At Pelican Studios, we undertake applied research, often with academic merit, and develop custom systems for specialised applications, including research tools, and purpose-built assemblies such as ecological survey infrastructure.
We work closely with clients to meet technical, regulatory, and operational requirements, delivering solutions that are robust, repeatable, and fit for field or public use.
